Trip to DC

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting Washington DC with a group of amazing women that I met while I was planning my wedding. This was actually the first time that I MET most of them, but we have been chatting for two years. Having never been to DC, I jumped at the chance to go there and spend some time. Here are a few photos for you to get an idea of how much fun I had. As usual, many more photos can be found on my facebook.

These are the girls that I spent most of my time with. Sitting next to me is Lauren. She lives in California and I have been talking to her the longest out of the girls in my group. She also saved me from being the youngest at the get together. Nest to Lauren is Libertad, who I have felt like I have known forever. She also lived in California and keeps me company chatting online while I am at work at night (I love the time difference). Amanda is next to Libertad. She was our amazing tour guide and had the most romantic elopement wedding in August in St. Lucia. Next to Amanda is Nicole, who I haven't been chatting with as long as the other girls, but was a fantastic roommate. Nicole is sweet and funny and also a wonderful tour guide. Last but not least, is Annie. Annie is one of the funniest girls I have had the pleasure of meeting... I am pretty sure if she auditioned for Saturday Night Light, she would easily make the cut.

Naturally, I had to tag monkey bones as my favorite Smithsonian photo. The museum of Natural History was incredible. I want to spend days there to examine each and every artifact. I also want to steal the Hope Diamond, but I don't think I would get too far.

On our last day, we finally got some beautiful weather to walk around and visit many of the monuments. I must say that I am not into history and I needed *clarification* on a few things, but the monuments are even more breath taking in person than you can ever imagine from seeing them on TV. We saw the Capitol, White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and World War II Memorial. I was able to stand where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his most famous speech, and I was overcome with a sense of empowerment.

All in all the trip was more than I could have asked for. I feel that I need to take a moment to point out that I learned a valuable lesson. You never really know someone until you meet them. Be cautious with who you meet on the internet. I probably sound like quite a hypocrite to say this, but after two years of talking to people I learned a lot when I actually met them. I walked away with 6 amazing "new" friendships that I wouldn't trade for anything.
